FAITH AND HEALING OUTREACH MINISTRY - "...the New Jerusalem I make will be full of joy...there will be no weeping..no calling for help. Babies will no longer die in infancy, and all people will live out of their span...." Isaiah 55:17-20

WHAT IS A FAITH AND HEALTH MINISTRY?
A Faith and Health Ministry (FHM) is a monthly in-house healthcare event in the in the Beaver County area that targets one particular effect of the healthcare disparities. At every event, HIV/AIDS education and prevention along with testing will be available. Each event will offer education and prevention about other particular health problems, and if available, free healthcare services and training for churches partnering with Life and Liberty, Inc. Faith and Health Ministry (FHM) Initiative.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT EACH FHM EVENT?
During an event members of that particular chruch and the public can take advantage of free HIV/AIDS testing and pharmaceutical services available; and other available free healthcare services and education relating to a particular health problem (i.e., during our HIV/AIDS Education and Prevent event, testing will be made available to the church and public at no cost and a brief program of education and prevention will be presented to help participants understand how the virus is spread and how they can best protect themselves from contracting the virus.
WHERE WILL FHM'S EVENTS TAKE PLACE?
These events will be held on a rotating basis in partner churches in the Beaver County area.
THIS IS NOT A HEALTH FAIR. HOW DOES THIS DIFFER?
  • Each event will always have HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and testing available; however, we will focus on one other health problem by offering free medical interventsion and targeted education on that particular health problem. By focusing on only one issue at a time, we feel that we can do a better job of educating and addressing it.
  • We are not a one time event. Health disparities in our communities can only be addressed through continued involvement and intervention. Repeated targeted healthcare delivery events will allow for substantive intervention and education, gathering of meaningful data, a real impact on health in the community, and a sense of trust that we are here for the long haul.
  • FHM's help to create an ongoing support network in our communities by offering training and networking opportunities to help our community gain better access to the healthcare system and to help influence the lifestyle choices of the people in ways that significantly impact their health.
WHAT DOES FHM NEED FROM YOUR CONGREGATION?
Each partnering congregation will form a Healthcare Ministry Committee. This means you will identify 3-5 people in your congregation who will work with your pastor and the FHM organizer to coordinate consciousness-raising issues concerning public health. African-American health disparities and biblical teaching concerning faith in God and stewardship of one's personal health and that of others. Your committee and the others from area chruches will constitute a Community Health Council who will help with the logistics on the day of each event and serve as a health support network in the community.

The Healthcare Ministry Committee will identify specific healthcare needs and potential community partners.

The Healthcare Ministry will partner with FHM of Life and Liberty, Inc., to help determine which health needs can be addressed in the community. HIV/AIDS prevention and education will be presented at every event along with others such as: mammograms, high blood pressure, immunizations, smoking, diabetes, nutrition, exercise, heart disease, substance abuse, violence, depression, etc.

Work with FHM organizers and staff on planning, publicity, logistics, and time line. FHM Inititive of Life and Liberty, Inc., will provide planning suppport, publicity and all promotional materials, signage, and logistical support. We will also provide host churches a stipend to defray the cost of food and other materials associated with the event.

The planned FHM event will need to include: parking, signage, load-in, set-up, food, restrooms, and private areas for screenings. Space and tables will need to be provided for educational materials, surveys and signups, education, and training sessions.
