HOUSING - Making Home Ownership a Reality NOT Just a Dream!

Note: This initiative is a collaboration between Life and Liberty, Inc., and the Beaver County Commissioners, Beaver County Department Community Development, Housing Opportunities of Beaver County, Beaver County Housing Authority and SKY Bank.

LIFE OWNERSHIP
Life and Liberty, Inc. / Liberty Homeownership Initiative is a (501)c(3) faith-based organization that has been certified as Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). The major focus is the development of affordable housing for very low, low and moderate income residents throughout the region. We seek to mobilize resources to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Life and Liberty, Inc. through its Liberty Homeownership Initiative recognizes the urgent need for affordable housing in Beaver County and across the nation. As the current crisis of growing demand and shrinking stock of affordable housing becomes ever more urgent, we at LLI/LHI pledge to do our part in solving this problem; and at the same time not lower our high standards of service to our partners and residents.

WHAT IS AFFORDABLE HOUSING?
According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) not more than 30% of total household income should be on housing. However, low wages and the high demand for housing contribute to the fact that many families, individuals, and seniors, pay much more than 30% of their annual income on shelter. Affordable Housing programs are designed to ensure the 30% standard is upheld.

We will recruite prospective homeowners from Midland and the Beaver County area to bring home ownership to our neighborhoods. We will help people with credit problems become eligible to be a homeowner. We will empower people to use their rent money to build long-term equity for themselves, their families, and the community by becoming homeowners.

To be eligible for this homeownership initiative applicants must:
  • Be a first time home buyer
  • Qualify for a mortgage by meeting the income guidelines for financial assistance with closing clots and down payment
  • Participate in a homeownership counseling program
  • Qualified participants must have the following income:
